Lu Jong

My Approach

I teach Lu Jong because it has great benefits for the mind, body and spirit. Lu Jong is a vital part of my personal daily exercise routine as it is simple, efficient, effective and versatile. I never expected to be contemplating quantum physics and relativity theory when considering the place that eastern wisdom, thought and philosophy has in a western world but they appear to be strongly aligned.

Lu Jong Practice

The Lu Jong practice is a series of body movements that developed more than 8000 years ago in Tibet. Lu Jong originates in the Buddhist Tantrayana and Bön traditions and it is based on Tibetan Medicine.
Tibetan Medicine understands that diseases are the consequence of imbalanced elements and humors (the vital substances of the body). Through the combination of position, movement and breath, Lu Jong opens the channels in the body and mobilizes misdirected energy. In this way, the practice of Lu Jong helps to cultivate balance on the physical, mental and energetic levels.

Physical Benefits

On a physical level, the movements improve the strength and flexibility of the whole body in a gentle way, especially the spine. It also helps to improve balance.

As we get older we lose these abilities and find it difficult to even bend forward to put our socks on, or get up off the floor if we accidentally fall over. With regular Lu Jong practice we can become more flexible, strong and improve our overall vitality and energy levels, giving us physical independence well into our silver years.

Correct movement of the body through exercises like yoga helps to support the immune system against diseases and illness.

Lu Jong offers a 10 minute movement and breathing sequence that will give access to these benefits, and can easily fit into a busy lifestyle. This can be learnt 1:1, in group workshops or gradually through attending classes and can become a daily self practice that does not require instruction from a teacher. This was my main reason for bringing Lu Jong to the UK.

Mental Benefits

On a mental level, Lu Jong helps us to manage common difficult emotions like anger, jealousy and cravings in order to achieve emotional balance and increase our energy.

Through the exercises of Lu Jong we can influence the mind in such a way that it becomes free and compassionate. Our well being, awareness of our body and inner sensitivity, as well as our power of concentration and clarity are strengthened. This helps us to be more present and effective in our work environments and personal and professional relationships with people.

Lu Jong helps us to become more mindful of our emotions and instead of being troubled for days, weeks or even years by something someone said, did or did not say or do, through Lu Jong we can learn how to quickly identify unhelpful emotions and transform them into more positive emotions to bring peace of mind and ease to relationships. We also learn to balance and embrace both our masculine and feminine traits which allows us to function optimally in the workplace or the household bringing gender equality.

Holistic Benefits

On an energetic level, Lu Jong releases blockages and opens the subtle body channels. Reestablishing the proper flow of energy has profound benefits for the health of both body and mind.

When we open our channels, we open our hearts and learn that we are not separate from nature. We are actually a vital part of nature and through this connection we can learn to live in harmony with our environment. We become more aware of the natural cycles and rhythms in nature and how it can help us to use our day more effectively to optimise energy use.

For example, the early morning is a great time for meditation and contemplation and is considered the ‘Space’ time. Following this is the ‘Fire’ time, a high energy period perfect for tackling the to-do list, before stopping for a break at lunch time when we naturally feel tired. This is the ‘Earth’ time when we feel lazy. The afternoon is a great time for errands as our it focus is reduced and is called ‘Wind’ time The early evening is when we naturally want to relax and feel at ease and it is the ‘Water’ time.

Lu Jong History

This form of Lu Jong originates in the lineage of Tulku Lobsang, who introduced the practice of Lu Jong to the West. Prior to this, he received many years of teachings from masters of different Tibetan Buddhist schools. In this way, he was able to collect these precious exercises and modify them to adapt to Western needs. The result is an extensive program of physical movements, which bring our bodies and minds into balance. The practice of Lu Jong is suitable for all ages and physical abilities. While the movements of Lu Jong are simple, they can surely change your life.

May the practice of Lu Jong reduce the suffering of the people. ~Tulku Lobsang

Lu Jong Classes and Workshops

Lu Jong classes are a great way to experience Lu Jong and learn the practice gradually so that you can practice independently of a teacher, and to connect with a community of like-minded individuals. I currently do classes online, in Hanwell in west London and at 10 Harley Street. You can book this online or by contacting me.

The workshops are generally 1-3 hours long are designed for you to learn the Five Elements Movements for your own self practice and to discover more about the background and theory of Lu Jong and how it can be of benefit in your everyday life.

Lu Jong Teacher Training

It is possible to enter into a Lu Jong teacher training programme with me to either learn Lu Jong intensively for your own self practice or to teach others as I do.  Please do contact me if you would like further information on this.

I know Deniah, Dr Pachai, since 2012. We first met at work, we are both General Practitioners and we developed a friendship. I have the pleasure to assist to her Lu Jong classes and workshops regularly. Deniah is an excellent teacher. She is a natural. She teaches with flow. She makes people feel comfortable and supports all levels of practice with the same kindness and compassion. She accompanies, supports and encourages people to do their best with gentleness. I appreciate her sharing her own experiences and struggles on the path. I strongly recommend to all kind of people and ages her teachings and the simplicity of the Tibetan yoga, Lu Jong, she teaches.

Carmen Fernández – GP

Deniah has made a real difference. She introduced me to Lu Jong yoga which means I now have a gentle but effective routine that focuses on flexibility, mindfulness and well-being. It’s so reassuring to know that she has trained as a doctor and that her recommendations are based on a deep understanding of how my body works, and her knowledge is complemented by her positive energy and caring approach. She has made me realise my health goals are achievable and that working towards them can be a pleasure.
